Amazon has acquired Israeli storage firm E8 Storage. The exact price of the acquisition was not disclosed, but estimates suggest the sum was in the tens of millions of dollars— with some sources placing the price at $60 million. E8 was founded in 2014, and has raised $18 million, to date. Accel Fund, Vertex and Magama have been E8’s lead investors.
E8 has developed specialized software that allows users to take advantage of the speed storage on SSD drives, while at the same time, using a private cloud to actually store the data. The company’s solution gives users the speed of local SSD drives, together with the flexibility of the cloud.
